The NIA on Sunday arrested a fellow police officer, Riyaz Kasi, suspended in connection with a cracker-laden SUV near the businessman Mukesh Ambani’s residence, the police official said.

Assistant Inspector of Police (API) Kasi was called by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for a re-investigation on Sunday, after which he was arrested, he said.

The NIA had earlier questioned him in connection with the SUV case after the February 25 explosives found near Ambani’s residence in South Mumbai and the death of businessman Mansukh Hiran.

The officer said that Kasi was fired from the Crime Branch in Mumbai last month.

Earlier, CCTV footage showed Kasi entering a plate number shop in Vikhroli area and talking to the shop owner. He picked up a digital video recorder and a shop computer.

The official said that Kasi had also collected CCTV footage from the Weiss Home complex in neighboring Thane.

The investigating agency suspects that Kasey Vasay helped to obtain the fake number plate used for the SUV, which was found along with the explosive near Ambani’s house in South Mumbai.

 

Officials said that the CBI on Sunday questioned two private employees of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in connection with the corruption charges filed by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Deshmukh’s personal aide Kundan Shinde and private secretary Sanjeev Balande have been asked to appear before the CBI panel in connection with the ongoing preliminary inquiry (PE) in the case following orders from the Mumbai High Court.

Officials said the two were questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at DRDO’s guest house in suburban Santa Cruz. Singh said in a letter that when Deshmukh asked suspended policeman Sachin Tendulkar if he extorted more than Rs 100 crore a month from Mumbai’s bars and restaurants, Balandan said.
